Viewing this Help Information from the Medikord Program
1. Plug the Medikord USB flash drive into a free USB port on your computer.
2. An "autoplay" window will popup similar to the image below. The options in this window may be different on your computer. Click on "Open folder to view files" as shown below.
2. A window with a list of files will be shown, similar to the image below. Double-click on the "Medikord_Program" file. This will start the Medikord Program.
Once the Medikord program has been started, you will see menu items ("File", "Password Protection", "Backup and Restore" and "Help"), a series of tabs: "Patient Information," "Current Medication," etc. as shown below. Clicking on any of these tabs will open the specific section of the program where you can enter information.
The current active tab in the image below is the "Patient Information" tab.
The coloured rectangles and text on the above image are for explanation purposes, and will not appear when you use the Medikord program.
Patient Information Tab
The Patient Information section is for entering identification and contact details. To enter your information into a text field, simpy click inside the field and start typing.
To select your blood group, click on the "Blood Group" drop-down list and simpy click on the appropriate item, as shown below.
To select your gender, click on either "Male" or "Female." These circular buttons are called "radio buttons"
Current Medication Tab
The Current Medication tab is for entering the medication that you a currently taking. You can enter up to 10 different medications. Please not the scroll-bar to the right, which allows you to scroll up or down to view/enter the details of each medication.
For each medication, type the name of the drug, and when it was prescribed. If you take the medication in the morning click on the "Taken in morning" checkbox in the same row, if you take it in the afternoon, click on the "Taken in afternoon" checkbox in the same row and if you take it at night, click on the "Taken at Night" checkbox in the same row.
When you click on any checkbox, e.g. "Taken in Morning," a "Strength" text field will appear where you can enter the strength (e.g. "mg" or "ml" of the dose taken at that time of day. Unchecking a checkbox (e.g. if you no longer take the medication) will hide the "Strength" text field.
Allergies to Medication Tab
The Allergies to Medication tab is for entering any allergies you have to particular medication. You can enter up to 10 different medications/drugs. Please note the scrollbar on the right to scroll up or down.
For each allergy, type the name of the drug, and the reaction you experience if you take that drug.
Allergies to Food or Additives Tab
The Allergies to Food or Additives tab is for entering any allergies you have to particular food or additives. You can enter up to 10 different foods/additives. Please note the scrollbar on the right to scroll up or down.
For each food allergy, type the name of the food/additive, and the reaction you experience if you consume that food/additive.
Existing Conditions Tab
For each medical condition you have, list them by entering the name in each textfield. You can enter up to 10 conditions.
Emergency Contacts Tab
The purpose of this tab is to record the contact details of the people you wish to be contacted in the case of an emergency. The details of up to four people can be recorded.
Doctor/Specialist Information Tab
The purpose of this tab is to record the contact details of the doctors or specialists whose care you are under. Details of up to four doctors or specialists can be recorded.
Healthcare Information Tab
This tab allows the recording of Centrelink details (if applicable), Medicare number (if applicable), and private health insurance details (if applicable).
Operations Tab
This tab is to record any operations you have had performed. Up to 10 operations can be recorded. Please note the scroll bar on the right hand side which is used to scroll the window up or down view/enter details of operations.
Additional Information Tab
This tab is to record any additional information that may be important to healthcare professionals.
Vaccinations Tab
This tab is to record any vaccinations you have had administered. The names of various diseases are shown in tabular format. If you have been vaccinated for any of these diseases, you can enter the details that you have available. Please observe the scroll bar on the right hand side, which you can use scroll up or down to view/enter the details of vaccinations.
As shown in the image below, if you scroll right down to the bottom of the table, the last three rows allow you to enter "other" vaccinations that are not listed in the table.
If "Patient Information" is not already displayed, click on the "Patient Information" tab. Click on "Add Photo." A file selection window will be displayed and you can navigate to "My Pictures" or any other location where you have a photo saved.
Once the photo file is located, click on the photo file then click "open."
The photo will be displayed in the Medikord program, as shown below, and you have the option of selecting a different photo ("Change Photo") or removing the photo from Medikord ("Remove photo").
To save your information, on the main menu at the top of the Medikord window, click on "File" then "Save". All the information you have entered will be saved. The next time you run the Medikord program, all of the saved data will be displayed.
While running Medikord, if you make changes to the information, then exit Medikord (By clicking File->Exit or the red cross in the top right hand corner of the window) without saving first, you will be asked if you wish to save.
Protecting your Information with a Password
Setting a Password
Click on "Password Protection" on the main menu at the top of the Medikord window, then click "Set Password" as shown below
After you have set a password, you may notice that two buttons are shown on the Medikord window, "Remove Password" and "Change Password"
Changing the Password
After you set a password, you can change the password at any time. To do this, Click on "Password Protection" on the main menu at the top of the Medikord window, then click "Change Password" as shown below.
Removing the Password
To remove password protection, Click on "Password Protection" on the main menu at the top of the Medikord window, then click "Change Password" as shown below.
You will be asked to enter the current password as shown below, and if it is correct, the password protection will be removed.
Printing your Medical Information / Viewing as Pages
To print your medical information (or to view all your medical information as single document), click on the "File" main menu then click on "Page/Print View" item as shown below.
To send the contents to the default printer attached to the computer, click on the "Print" button at the top of the Page/Print View window.
Backing up and Restoring your Medical Information
Backing up your Medical Information
Click on "Backup and Restore" on the main menu at the top of the Medikord window, then click "Perform Backup" as shown below.
If you set a password previously, you will be asked if you wish to remove password protection from the backed up information, This is useful if you forget your password for the Medikord device, you can restore from the backup then set a new password.
Next you will be asked to select a backup location (folder) as shown in the image below. Once you select the folder and click OK, a subfolder will be created called "Medikord-Backup" and the current date, e.g. "Medikord-Backup-12-04-2012". Your medical information will be copied from the Medikord USB flash drive to that location.
Restoring your Medical Information
If you want to restore your medical information that you previously backed up, click on "Backup and Restore" on the main menu at the top of the Medikord window, then click "Perform Restore" as shown below.
You will be asked to select a location (folder) to restore from, as shown in the image below. Click on the backup folder, in the example image below the backup folder is named "Medikord-Backup-13-12-2011", which means the backup was performed on the 13th of December 2011. Click OK.
The Medikord program will then advise you that it has to restart to load the restored data.
Checking which version of Medikord you are using
Click on "Help" on the main menu at the top of the Medikord window, then click "About Medikord". The version information will be displayed as shown below/
